Departmental stores are probably the most underrated shops of our times. They are a life saver for any family person because they have everything that we need. Charles Henry Harrods opened the store in 1834 and that time it was small one room store which sold tea and groceries. He then moved the store to Knightsbridge in 1849 which expanded due to the great success and rush that it enjoyed and turned into the store that we know today.

The total floor space of the store is 1,000,000 square feet and it was built during 1901 and 1905. The store enjoys a total of 100,000 customers on a daily basis and about 300,000 during the time of Christmas.

The store’s motto is ‘Omnia Omnibus Ubique’ in Latin which means that ‘All things for All people, everywhere’ and it rightfully follows the model as it has about 330 categories of stores and have everything from fashion to cookies to spyware. There are eateries at every floor with various choices. It definitely is something to marvel at.

It also used to house a zoo in there which initially had animals like chicken but later changed to exotic animals. There is also an Egyptian room inside the store which houses various artifacts and also has the bust of queen Diana. The escalator is also designed with an Egyptian theme. This store is definitely a beautiful sight in London.
